Setting

The setting of this short story will be the Ceres space-station found within the game Super Metroid. it is likely that i will only be taking settings from the latter part of the game as i believe that it holds more content for what i need.

Now the visual setting for the station itself takes on a darker art style, using contrasting colours whilst at the same time keeping a subdued tone. This creates a somewhat foreboding and sinister atmosphere, which can be helpful when trying to add human features to Samus that the readers can relate to.

Much of the art style used for the creatures in Metroid is a combination of living creatures mixed with mechanics, creating an overall organic yet cold feeling. This art style can be compared to that of Hans Geiger, the artist who primarily worked on the movie 'Alien'. In fact it is commonly accepted that the movie was the inspiration for the style of Metroid

The image of "Motherbrain" (Above) from metroid can be easily compared to the art style of Giger himself (Below)

Theme

i would like to base the theme of my story in more of an action setting, whilst at the same time creating a more personal connection with the protagonist, which shouldn't be difficult as there is little for the player pf the metroid games to relate or empathise with.

as such it is likely this will end up with me writing in a first person perspective detailing the thoughts and feelings of Samus, though i may not choose to express this until i create a script form the story due to limitations on what i am being asked to create.
Purpose

i'm writing this blog as part of my college course for developing computer games. my aim is to create a basic story that can later be turned into a script. i have specific criteria that i aim to meet covering components employed, characterisation, plot devices and narrative flow.

as i have stated before i will be basing my story upon the Metroid franchise, particually Super Metroid.
i recognise that Metroid and all of the characters i use are the intellectual property of Nintendo and have been used for academic purposes only.

the main reason that i have chosen to use Metroid as the basis for my story is that although the game has a set and structured storyline, there is little to no actual dialogue which makes it very flexible when it comes to changing story elements and very simple to create a script for, which i will be doing as the next unit in my course.

now the the main target audience for my story would be sixteen to eighteen year-olds, though as Metroid is a slightly older franchise it may appeal to a slightly older audience as well.

Main Character

The main protagonist pf my story will be Samus Aran, an intergalactic bounty hunter of much renown. upon leaving a larval Metroid (a creature capable of consuming vast amounts of energy) with trusted scientists on the Ceres space colony.

shortly after leaving, Samus receives a distress call from the station, indicating that something has gone amiss. as it transpires the station has been attacked by the tyrannical space pirates, who seek to use the Metroid's biology to further their own ends and take control of the galaxy.

Hello. this is a blog detailing my developments of a story that i will be creating for my college Games design. i have decided to base my story in Nintendo's Metroid universe. i will regularly update my blog with any developments.
